Timberon, NM 03/2005
The following pictures were taken March 26, 2005 in Timberon, New Mexico. Timberon is a sort of failed resort community that was created in 1970. It was a ranch subdivided into several thousand parcels, mostly of .5 acres, to be developed by the original contractor. The hope, I gather was that it was to be a bit of a fancy resort. It has a small airstrip and a 9 hole golf course. It seems like the idea didn't take off as planned. It is now a very small community made up mostly of retirees. This area photographed is pretty off the beaten path, with very little development, so it still feels rural, and you can easily forget the small RV park you see on the way in. Probably over 90% of all the properties are undeveloped, and there are so many for sale that it is a glutted, buyers market. I had no interest in electric or water, which put me at the opposite end of most other buyers. As a result in the same area, plots with utilities regularly go for twice as much as those without. All the pictures below are the immediate area, in and around my parcel.
