In April of 2004, my brother Brian and I took a two and a half week vacation through Europe, concentrating mostly on Germany. We flew into Paris, and spent four days there. I had two friends, Ian and Karine, who met us there and showed us around. I knew them from U-Penn in Philadelphia, and about the time I moved from Philly to New Mexico, they had moved to Paris. After 4 days in Paris, we took a sleeper train to Frankfurt, Germany where we rented a car. We then headed north on a large clockwise circle through Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Lichtenstein, and Switzerland. Amond the cities on the list, we saw Köln, Osnabrück, Bremen, Wolfsburg, Berlin, Dresden, Prague, Munich, Füssen, Freiburg, Stuttgart, and Würzburg. We also had a very interesting day attempting to drive through Switzerland, and having to rerout practically to Italy because of "avalanch hazards." We then had drive through a tunnel under a mountain that lasted some 15 miles. The pictures below are more or less chronological. Brian, being a car nut, and specifically a VW nut, took many car photos, some of which are in this collection (we originally shot over 2000 photos which I narrowed to around 300.) It was also obligatory to stop at the VW factory and automotive amusement park "Autostadt" in Wolfsburg.
At Versailles I attempted to capture the immensity of the place by taking a panoramic series of photos. I did a full 360 comprising 18 seperate photos. Then, with the help of special software, I stitched them all together into a
Quicktime VR panorama.
